Is There Casein In Lactaid Milk?
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

Does anyone know if there is casein in lactaid milk? My PDD-NOS daughter keeps getting yeast infections and I am discovering in my readings that milk products contribute to recurring yeast infections. Any advice? My girls LOVE milk products and trying to convert to the GFCF diet has been very trying. Any advice is greatly appreciated!

We use unsweetend vanilla almond milk. Also coconut yogurt is yummy. We have not found any cheeses that are good. There are gfdf chocolate chips too, Enjoy Life makes them. Our family has been on the diet for two years, let me know if I can help in any way. Made a world of difference for our family:)

Yep; there's a lot. The Lactaid milk just has an enzyme (lactase) added to it to break down the lactose. It doesn't touch the casein.

Have you tried almond or rice milk as a substitute? They both take some getting used to because of the flavor, but are casein-free.

My kids aren't big fans of rice milk (which I use in cooking) or almond milk (which I put in my coffee). They much prefer coconut, hemp, flax, or sunflower. I rotate these so they get a variety of nutrients and also to avoid the development of allergies.

My daughter has adjusted to life without dairy except for CHEESE! THere are no acceptable cheese substitutes. But soy and coconut yogurts are very good, as well as the flavored soy or almond milks. My daughter struggles with constipation, so coconut milk has been good for her, too.
