Ok here goes again...The question is ...DO YOU, not your child have some of the same sensory issues as your child with autism?
I have the same fear of change like my son. We like schedules and I tend to have some ocd issues like him. My husband and I also dont like crowded places like our son. He gets very overwhelmed! But he mostly resembles my husbands' father.
Yes..I have always been very sensitive to noise and bright lights. I also have some of the tactile sensory issues, like I do not like the feel of tags in my clothing, etc.
I also do not enjoy being over stimulated. And when I do I have to remove myself or I tend to get angry or panicky. I also cannot tolerate any type of bright light I am super sensitive to it and I get Migraines headaches almost everyday. When I drive I have to wear dark sunglasses. I am not very good at friendships but can have them. I havenever been tested for aspergers but I believe I just have sensory issues and mild form of add. Things never occurred to me untill my kids started having issues and discovered my middle child has aspergers as well as adhd. The things we can learn about ourselves through our children.
Yes, I do. I've always been hypersensitive to bright lights ( especially flourescent lights, they give me headaches.) Like my son, I get overwhelmed and distracted with too much going on at once usually including too much noise from different directions. I have often been told how sharp my hearing is, because what seems a normal volume for most,is often way too loud for me. I have often wondered about the sensory connection, but not sure. My son has classic Autism and I could see where some Aspberger like traits might run in my family. Allthough, I can be quirky, I am not on the spectrum. I've never suspected so, but have taken the self tests, just to rule it out. The sensory issues and being primarily a visual learner, are the only traits that coincide for me. I was developmentally advanced as a baby, toddler, young child. I reached most of my developmental milestones early as a baby, toddler, & young child.
I have a lot of trouble multiple-tasking, but can "micro-focus" on a task, as long as the noise level is not too high.
Anyone in Irvine, CA know which elementary schools offer a SAI Autism class for mild-moderate? TIA
