First it isn't up to the school to make that judgement call. And if 3 DOCTORS have diagnosed him then the school HAS to accept that. And get an advocate. See if you can get one of the doctors to write a letter to the school or better yet go with you to the school. I have had Therapist, PCPs and even my son's eye doctor write the school. The school should be working WITH you to help our son, not fighting the PROFESSIONAL diagnoses of 3 doctors.

The school is not the authority on this issue =get the papers from your doctors stating the condition and cram it in front of their faces . We are our children's advocates -hugs to you

You need to talk to the schools special education director. The school has to work with you with his diagnosis. He or she will work with you for the best IEP school plan for your child.

I have an Autistic child with a lazy eye and astigmatism. You can have BOTH. I would take your child to the eye doctor right away. They can see if there are problems. I should have taken my daughter sooner. I took her at 6 years old and we're paying the price now. Make sure it's an MD eye doctor. Not an opthamologist. Yes, it is possible to have both. My son is non-verbal and I suspect him of vision problems as well.

Your son should have an IEP, you can request (in writing) an independent educational evaluation. Request that is done at public expense. They will either accept the letters from your doctor or send him for the IEE. ADHD and vision impairment would qualify him for the IEP and most definitely with an autism diagnosis. I agree with CharleneMullinsHeck, find an advocate. I would call the state board of education and ask for advice if the school doesn't want to cooperate. We have had to get an attorney involved for my son.
