Guns, would you keep one in your home if you have a child who is Autistic?

I know this is a touchy subject, but WOW - I won't let anyone care for my son in their home if they keep guns. I couldn't possibly feel safe having one in my home. Is there some special safety training given to people who are licensed to have guns? Every so often I hear of a child getting hurt because of playing with dad's stuff. I'm surprised there aren't more accidents, but most lawful citizens are trained in safety right? I'm just curious to hear what your thoughts are.

We do own guns, because we hunt(South Ga), however they are always locked in a gun safe, not a gun cabinet(big difference) and none of our children including the teenager have any idea where the key is. We never bring the gun home loaded or leave with it loaded. I believe its a choice, but safety training is mandatory.

Personally I would like a gun, but wont ever get one. Its just too risky. I would NEVER let anyone care for my kids if there were guns in the house. Ya never know.

I would have to say not. The only way I would feel comfortable is if it was in a very secure safe but by the time you would ever need it of some importance you wouldn't have enough time to get it. My children are way to curious and smart for me to feel safe with a gun in the house. To me that would be a looking for trouble type of deal

Thank you all, those were great answers! I think I might feel very safe if my child was at CBTs home! But, I definitely don't let your average hunter around here who keeps guns like toys and posts photos of them on the internet care for my kids! Well, we have we have a big dog rather than guns. She's a big german shorthair and very intimidating and protective. You can train a dog but not a gun owner - they have to be responsible themselves and it's hard for an outsider to determine. I'm all for conceal and carry. Some of these crazies and with their magazines could be stopped far sooner with the right person having a conceal and carry to stop them faster. I have relatives who teach proper safety and let their teens shoot bb guns on ranges but they don't walk around the house dressed like a sniper like one of my neighbor's kids does. One day he was all in black with what appeared to be a semi automatic weapon and was pointing it at my home and crouching in the bushes to take aim at cars for fun. I called the police and found out it was a BB gun. Some people have no business with guns and they don't train their children! Personally, I'm so careful to avoid them altogether unless the person is a responsible police officer or maybe CBT! :)
