What Do You Think About Cameras In All Special Needs Classrooms?

A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭
Lakewood, OH

Many children all over the country are coming home with unexplained marks and bruises. Some children are being hit, screamed in face, mentally and Physically abused. They can not speak because the have troubles in communication. This could help staff keep a better eye on the children with disabilities. This will keep good staff in and bed staff out. Members overwhelmingly supported the idea of cameras in special needs classrooms, with many sharing personal stories of their children being locked in rooms, physically restrained, or verbally abused by staff, highlighting the vulnerability of non-verbal and communication-impaired students who cannot report mistreatment. Several members emphasized that cameras would protect both students and teachers by providing evidence in cases of alleged abuse or false accusations, with some suggesting that parent access through username and password would allow real-time monitoring and more meaningful conversations about their child's day. A recurring theme was the deep mistrust many parents feel toward school systems despite acknowledging good teachers exist, with many advocating for cameras in all classrooms and on buses to address bullying, abuse, and accountability for everyone involved.

I think this is of the upmost importance, I work everyday with children diagnosed with autism from mild to severe, from very aggressive to passive and I would not work with a child if there were not cameras in the therapy rooms for not only their safety and concern but also my own.

YES! I think this would benefit school, children, staff and parents. If there is nothing going on in classroom, schools should welcome cameras for safety. I hear cases all the time of abuse by staff members. Couple children have been killed or nearly killed. This must end and the classrooms need safety protection.

Having cameras in ALL class rooms would be helpful for everyone. I'd love to see how my kid acts when I'm not around! It would also be a great way to protect BOTH kids and teachers. If there is a problem (either party) it will be viewable from all angles and there would be proof in case of any disciplinary action needed. This would also be a great tool to be more connected with your child. Often I'd ask my son 'how was school?' or 'what did you do today?' and get very little response. If I can peer into his classroom with a live feed, I can be more direct with conversation "The game with the rubber duckies looked like fun!"

I love the idea. We have been blessed to have really great teachers for Kameron but those same teachers are the ones I have had a friend complain about to me where her little boy is concerned. I think there should be camera in ALL classrooms. It isn't just he teachers that are abusing and hurting children. We all know how bad bullies have gotten. I want all children protected and the parents of these children to be held accountable for the actions of their children.(sorry soapbox..lol)I have signed every petition I have found to make this a reality.
