Autism diagnosis prior to age two????????

OK I will prob. get flamed up one side and down another for this but is has been bothering me a long time. If in the diagnosis criteria autism has language/developmental delays and diagnostic observations up to 18-24 months. unless you brought your child in for observation at birth and had them observed for two years...how do you have a reliable diagnosis????
