Any parents that think they may be autistic themselves?
I am 41 years old the mother of two children a girl and a boy. My daughter is neurotypical and my son was diagnosed with autism July of 2011. Over the past year or so I have really began to think that I may be autistic. I have always had issues socially from the time I was very young it appeared to people that I was very shy. Although I just really didn't know how to start successfully communicating with people. In life I have had very few maybe 2 successful friendships and only one long term… read more
This is awesome that you are doing so well. I too wonder about myself.I am 48 and have struggled growing up. I always felt inferrior to my sisters, I have issues focussing, completing things, have dyslexia. I am however a self taught crafter and crochet/knit for many charity groups. I take care of my boys, work a part time job for my friends Balloon co as a decorater. Have friends but only a few are really close. I work on it all the time.
I just thought everyone had the same issues. Its with my young boys that I have learned so much.
I have been afraid to talk to a Dr about my true feelings about my problems. Thanks for posting. Keep up the great job. Angel hugs
My husband says he has undiagnosed Aspergers and I would probably be diagnosed as PDD-NOS. a while ago I say an online quiz that said how autistic are you. I scored in the autistic range and my husband scored in the autistic range. Psychcentral.com/cgi-bin/autismquiz.cgi not sure how accurate it is but it is interesting.
I was actually telling my sons speech therapist about these same things today and she said she did notice some of the traits in me also. I find it interesting at this age:)
How do I explain moderate autism behaviors that my youngest son has to my other son with Asperger's and emotional disabilities??
Why is it that neurotypicals tend to get all their advice about autism from other neurotypicals rather than from autistics?
