Do your research-interviews, personal visits-before you decide on DDI specific programs. In AZ, DDD pays habilitation hours to private organizations. In comparison, my daughter's private ABA therapist informed me when we had our first meeting with Naomi's Service Coordinator, that the "summer day program" to which he was referring and recommending Naomi go was for kids on the spectrum who are severely impacted, and this type of situation would be highly inappropriate for my daughter who is high functioning and whose primary purpose for seeking out such programming is so she will have frequent social interaction with typically developing peers and peers on the spectrum who are at her level of involvement. Another wonderful thing about having DDD assistance is that in terms of home habilitation and respite providers, I get to interview these people and decide who to use. I am also allowed to fire anyone who I believe is not meeting our needs.
