How many of you have children that have wandered off more than once & you have panicked until your found them?

I have had too many frightening experiences of loosing my child only to find out they wandered to the neighbours or walked down the block when I didn't have my constant eye on her. I have an Amber Alert GPS device & it's been my lifesaver. i create a virtual zone and if she wanders outside of that area I, and up to 10 people of my choice, are alerted via their text phone & computer. A map pops up & shows me exactly where she is so I can immediately go get her safely & quickly. If there… read more

My daughter got away from us four times before we Lo-Jacked her and changed the locks. Now the firemen in our town know her by sight. We watch her like a hawk now. I am still terrified she'll get away from us but I know that when I ask someone if they are watching Bella, they only say yes if they are actually looking at her now. I think every parent of every child is worried about losing their child but for parents of children who elope and do not learn from their "adventure" it is worse because we know it can happen again. That we will feel terrified again. That we will be panicked again. That people will think we are incompetent or careless again... I tell everyone I know and everyone I meet that my child bolts so I can call on them if it happens again. I don't care anymore if they think I am over reacting. I just want to be able to find her as quickly as possible if god forbid she ditches us again.

My daughter. Zoie still doesn't know harm or danger .She has to be watched 2/4/7. With that said ,I am waiting for a fenced in back yard for her. It has been approved by DDSO. I live in the country not in town. 5 acres is a lot to lose her in not to mention ponds and woods for miles. She has been in the road with her trike, her stroller. She cane go faster pushing these. There's no dust under my fanny.

my daughter was at a social group recentely. She had been placed outside the door due to behavior problems. She had been told her group was going outside, I guess she assumed they meant immediately. She started running. I saw her leave the building but was forced to follow her with a very heavy two year old in my arms. She was very fast and every time I caught or called her name she would run farther. People saw me chasing her but did not help. I finally caught up to her. It was very scary. I thought about calling the police, but figured this would somehow become my fault.

The worst part is when I called my daughter's name, she wouldn't answer. Finally had to resort to, " you want a cookie?" And she did as she always does which is to answer by repeating the word "cookie" so I was able to find her. I was on the verge of panic.

I think all ASD parents have experienced that at least once, as Mom to three I have a few times.
