For Adult Females With Autism, What Sort Of Experiences Did You Have With Labor?
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

For example I knew I was pregnant within a few days of conception, before I could test positive on urine or blood tests. I knew the gender of my children also. I don't respond the same to medications as do neurotypicals apparently. I was refused medicine for my first child because it would slow down the labor, but it was not until I received it that my labor progressed. I am interested in hearing your stories.

@Autistic, you are not like my daughter, husband or his high-functioning ASD family. They lie all the time. They are dishonest. They manipulate and push people into a corner with threats. They say… read more

How To Deal With Autism Issues As An Adult?
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭
A MyAutismTeam Member

I just saw this question.

There isn't much help currently for autistic adults. To the majority of people we seem to "evaporate" once we reach adulthood.

Most physicians are bound by stereotypes… read more

Why Do So Many Assume That Autism Is A "condition Of Childhood" And Almost Always Refer To Autistics As Children?

In undergraduate classes like Introduction to Psychology and Child Development, it is covered under childhood disorders. This is probably due to the fact that the condition (or state of being, if you… read more

How Do I Explain Moderate Autism Behaviors That My Youngest Son Has To My Other Son With Asperger's And Emotional Disabilities??
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

My oldest son has extreme emotional outbursts. My youngest has autism and cannot tolerate emotions other than happiness...and the noise and crying from the older son upset him. This usually causes my youngest to start screaming and physically trying to attack my oldest. My oldest then escalates and responds in kind to being attacked and screamed at (the oldest also has sensory issues to noise)
Mom is in the middle, playing referee (usually getting the physical attacks from the little… read more

I Would Like To Know How Autistics Respond To Medications Compared With Neurotypicals. I Know I Don't Respond The Same As Others. Do You?
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

Despite the research that indicates that the neurosynaptic junctions of autistics function differently than those of neurotypicals and that we have sensorimotor differences as well, I am surprised at the paucity of research about pharmacological manifestations of autism. All my life I have experienced very different results from many medications. Now that I have also had spinal cord damage, I don't know for sure which are autism related and which are spinal cord related.

A MyAutismTeam Member

I require very low doses of some meds but extremely high on others.

What Is "autism Awareness" To You?
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

My son was diagnosed with ASD in 1996... talk about dark ages. I was lucky... I was already on the internet back then which helped... somewhat. But the awareness level was at "0".

What Do Adults With Autism Need From A Facility Based Day Program?
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

I am working on creating a facility for adults with autism. Right now, i am researching what already exists and determining how big the gap of services really is. I want to bridge the gap from age 21 and entitlement to adulthood and needing to qualify for services. I want to offer adults on the spectrum opportunities for continued skill development as well as leisure activities. I need to hear from family members and self-advocates so I can make sure I'm delivering the best services. What… read more
