Leaving Parks
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

So it turns out we need to frame an ABA plan around leaving activities by somehow using a car ride. Now, the thing is, I don't drive, and even if I did... our parks are in walking distance from where we live. It needs to be in sight or it doesn't count. Car rides are often associated with shopping, errands, or special outings, even just going to unfamiliar parts of town. We have had some big blow ups about leaving the playground but once their dad showed up with the car, he jumped off the slide… read more

A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

My daughter (who is Severely Autistic, nonverbal, age almost 15) got upset this morning beacuse I told her it was time to get her backpack ready, and she hadn't finished her food. She screamed, and kicked me getting on the bus. Her bus comes at 6:15 am ...I'm sure all of the neighbors hate me. My daughter moves slowly in the morning, and doesnt seem to understand when time is limited! In addition, she has a horrible time waiting for anything she wants. We have been working on this for a long… read more

How Can You Get A Kid Who Won't Eat Anything But Tysons Chicken Fries And Kielbasa, To Go Gluten Free?
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

My 4 year old also likes frenchtoast sticks. He doesn't like the gluten free ones. He likes Mcdonalds Fries. He Doesn't like Gluten free fries. I find myself wasting so much money on these over priced foods that don't have the same consistency of regular foods nor taste. I wish someone would give me a heads up on which gluten free brands actually taste good before I buy something else that feels like rubber or playdough. If it doesn't feel right or sound right it goes on the floor(sensitivities)… read more

Ever Just Stop And Wonder If Your Child Will Ever Get Married Or Have A Relationship That Has True Love?
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

The other day I watched a movie called "Fly Away" directed by Janet Grillo and I ended up thinking about my daughter and wondering if she will ever trully know what love is or find love. I usually supress this feeling because there is no need to think about it right now but this movie really broiught it back for me. She is always so happy and I hope that one day she will be able to share that happiness with someone that cares and loves her in a different way then I do. Is it selfish of me to… read more

GFCF Supplement In Drink Form?
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

Hey All! I am looking for ideas for a gluten free, dairy free drink for my 3yo son with ASD. I googled it and found OneSource- it is lactose free but made from milk. He is not lactose intolerant.. it is a full-on dairy allergy. No whey or casein so that isn't going to work. I know there has to be SOMETHING out there along the lines of Boost or Ensure.. with his autism he is VERY particular about what he will eat. I have him on a multivitamin but I feel like I need to do more. Any suggestions?

Most GF Stuff We've Tried Is Horrible. How Do We Change To A GF Diet To Even Try It?
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

I've taken a run at going GF and we end up throwing the stuff out. The taste and texture turns us off big time
My son whom needs it the most won't eat it and we hate the food and recipes we've tried. I'm a great cook and have cooked all my life, but can't find things that are satisfying or taste good. I don't get it when people say,"Oh just try harder. Try it for 6 weeks and see if it works." We've never even lasted a week as the stuff is so gross to us. How do you make the change and… read more

Advice Pros/cons Of Gluten Free/casein Free Diet..
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

We just got our diagnosis for my 4 year old. Autism (high end of the spectrum) and ADHD. I denied medicine at this time, because I don't believe it's a necessity at this time. I was wondering how people feel through their personal experiences with a gluten free / casein free diet? Good or bad.. Thanks!

A MyAutismTeam Member

We did the gf cf diet for 1 year... It did not do anything for my son. Many people have reported success with it though. I did not start medication until it became an issue in school. Good luck to… read more
