Doctor And Blood Panel Advice For My Son.
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

I need advice on what kind of doctor to get my son into. There are so many different types I feel kind of lost. And also exactly what blood panel test should my son have. I know I want him tested for allergies, vitamin deficiencies, mineral deficiency, and metals such as mercury, copper. The doctor I really wanted to take my son to in Pittsburgh has a 5 month waiting list. My son needs help now.

Get the books "Healing the New Childhood Epidemics" by Dr. Kenneth Bock and "The Autism Book" by Dr. Bob Sears. Many of the basic tests your general pediatrician can order for you at a regular lab. The specialized tests can be ordered from directlabs.com if there's something you want that your pediatrician won't order for you: https://www.directlabs.com/Default.aspx?&ca...

I would do what @A MyAutismTeam Member recommended. While waiting for the appointment, try to get family doc or pediatrician to run the 10 most common routine tests (e.g. CBC, lipids, liver, kidney, thyroid, ferritin, CRP, etc.).

Another site for specialized tests is mymedlab.com where one can order these in advance of the appointment. I believe the single most important test is the Organic Acid Test (OAT) from GPL.

I recommend a pediatrician who specializes in special needs children. I have an OT, ABA, autism specialist and a family pediatrician for Connor. If you asked me what I recommend the most, hands down the most effective for my son are social interaction classes with 5 autistic boys and his OT.

Your child's PCP should be able to run a complete blood count and additional testing for the vitamins and minerals/metals that you mentioned. You just have to be sure to ask your doctor to run those tests specifically. If your doctor will not, then I would recommend changing PCP's. Also, you should go see a child development specialist. they can usually make the referrals for a comprehensive blood test.

I already asked them and they won't do it. I live in a very small area so switching isn't really an option. I will have to travel to get the tests I want done. And I'm fine with that I just need to find the right kind of doctor. The closest Dan doctor is 3 and a half hours away from us. Going to make some calls today.
