First of all, CONGRATULATIONS!!!! What wonderful, joyous news!! For us, we read books about becoming a big brother/sister...we let the child help choose clothes and other items, we discussed things, we included our kids...and I have to say, my son who has autism is delighted. He now is big brother to one brother and one sister and is just elated. They are currently 1 and 3 yrs old and he still loves being with them..there are times he needs to be away but we're able to talk about that (because he likes to play alone) and he is understanding that his little brother just wants to play but other than that, he does really good and has adjusted well.

Our son (then age 2) was quite overwhelmed at the birth of his little brother. Our son was also nonverbal when the baby was born. We tried explaining to him beforehand but we were nearly certain he didn't know what we were talking about. After the baby was born, our son started talking! Every time something unpleasant happened, he screamed "Baby!". It's been over 3 years and his speech has been progressing ever since. And the boys love each other now.

I don't know how old your son is but you may want to try a social story about the new baby.

At first yes it will be but your child will adjust to the baby just take it day by day and with precautions. It will all work out.
