April 21, 2012 is the first annual walk for Autism that Austin MN has ever done. Hi everyone! I have posted on here before asking for advice and ideas to help my 3 nearly 4 yr old to sleep. I use melatonin, cal mag, a diffuser and have darkening shades and white noise but still we have constant sleep issues. I'm lucky to get 4 to 5 hours a night and I'm always exhausted. I have even tried to let her go without a nap and that doesn't even make a difference. I also have cut her juice consumption to only 8 ounces a day so sugar is not an issue in her diet either. My son is 6 years old and attends school M-F. Lately every morning it has been a challenge getting our son to get dressed. He has a meltdown and fights with us. He punches, kicks, screams, you name it. If we tell him to stop hitting he has even more of a meltdown. Melatonin saved us! My son wasn't going to sleep until about 3 or 4 and then having to get up for achool. And then finally the Dr told us about the melatonin and it worked wonders!
I have been kicking around the idea of opening a store that specializes in items for children with ASD and other special needs. I'm thinking things like balance beams, spin boards, fidget toys, books about special needs kiddos, the super soft underwear with covered elastic, therapy brushes - the list of things could go on and on.
So my question is - are there items that you wish you could buy at a local store instead of online?
Weighted blankets for sure. Some kind of sound muffler too.
I have two sons with Autism (but 4 sons total). This is not my 1st rodeo with sleep issues as it took forever to get our older son with ASD to sleep all night. He literally cannot keep his body from moving 90% of the time, he sleeps for two hour intervals and wakes for milk and comforting and then goes back to sleep in seconds. He's diagnosed with febrile seizure disorder, GERD, severe autism, is hyposensitive to environmental changes, is just like a child with adhd, with restless behaviour and difficulty focusing on tasks for any length of time. My son is 5.....he has HFA, ADHD combo, SPD, and Pica.....he will use the potty at school but fights at home.....he doesn't mind sitting in soiled or wet pull ups or underwear.....he will go potty if he is changing and has to go.....so now my questions......
How long will this last?
Why doesn't it bother him to be in soiled or wet pull ups or underwear?
Why don't rewards work?
Am I alone in this?
