How Many Of You Are Able To Work?
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

I am a liscensed cosmetologist but have yet to actually start working because the cost of childcare is insane. None of my family (or husbands) can handle both of my kids for long periods of time so I am a stay at home mom. We really could uses more income. So I am planning to join scentsy to do something from home. I'm just curious how many people are able to work and afford care for our kiddos, seems impossible to me.

I am currently on FMLA leave due to transition issues within my household,. We lost our in home care provider, which was my mom and only person I trust to watch my son. I am trying to figure out a plan that will allow me to stay home and still make somewhat of the income I am currently bringing in, but it is HARD! Everything that is out there that allows work from home is either bogus or doesnt pay well. I need to get creative and think of a plan...

I work days and my husband works nights. 3 days a week we have an overlap where my mother in law comes and watches my kids for the few hours difference. But, my husband can handle them so that may not be much help.

We tried to get our daughter into another daycare but it was so obvious we would never be called again after going on the "wait list". The owner seemed pretty eager to show us the way out when we said our kid has autism. The daycare she's been in doesn't charge extra and we haven't run into that before.

Was it hard to find a daycare? Everyone I have talked to charges more for a special needs child, nannys included. I'm hoping working from home will help a bit. I would feel awful having my daughter go straight from school into daycare without any time at home with me. She is the kind of kid that really needs her downtime in her own space.

My husband and I work full time. We have no family that lives in our state so we have no help with our son. Unfortunately, I can't afford NOT to work (due to my student loans bills...) I pay about $900 a month for daycare. :(
