My 4 year old son had an evaluation today. Doctor told me that he has all the characteristics of an Aspie child, but because of changes made to diagnosing criteria he can't formally diagnose him. Now, you are either autistic or your not. Because he's verbal and advanced in cognitive skills he's not autistic. I believe in my heart that he has aspergers and am so upset that they gave him a diagnosis of ODD and possible ADHD.. Should I get a second opinion?
I would get a second opinion. My son was diagnosed with anxiety and ADHD before he was diagnosed with autism. I had to just keep looking for help. I didn't know he was autistic. I just knew he… read more
Can someone please explain the difference between Asperger's Syndrome and PDD-NOS. I can't find an answer that makes sense to me. Thank you in advance for your help.
Thanks Elizabeth. The questioning has died down for now, since school started. I guess he was not sure what summer was going to be like and now that's over.
My partner is always sayin that I don't see my step son for what he is. Meaning that I don't understand that he has Aspergers. That I view him as my son, normal. Thats not the case. This is our first year together and birthdays are here. My son is very out going and has friends from school. Where as my step son is home schooled and doesn't have friends. Note he has been home schooled for the last two years. And they always keep him home. So there is no interacting with other children. But with… read more
I think you need ask yourself why you are in this relationship.
My grandson is yet to be diagnosed, but based on all I've researched, he has HFA. I *thought that was a *good thing, as far as the syndrome goes, but it seems that I'm getting the impression that the higher functioning they are, the more likely they are to have Asperger's. I don't know what kind of "animal" (condition), I'm dealing with here, and how to figure out where or how it will go. The parents are unconcerned. It's a heavy weight for me to carry, feeling that I have no rights to get him… read more
I agree with the answer but please do not stress. Having Aspergers or Autism is not as bad as you might think. Stay strong and positive. I 'm an Aspie ,that is the name some with Aspergers choose to… read more
I just started reading the book "1..2..3..Magic:Effective Discipline for Children" which was highly recommend to me. I am only 40 pages into the book, but it certainly has my attention. Has anyone here read this book and/or used the technique?
I have used the book.. Loved everything about it.. the problem is that all parents/ carefivers and relatives need to follow the rules of the book or the method isundermined y those who think THEY… read more
I see the label HFA and I just wonder how it differs from Aspergers.
Our diagnostician says the only difference in HFA and Aspergers is the spelling
I am a school counselor and since I have a son with PDD-NOS, I have a real passion for helping those kids. I speak to teachers all the time, but from my own experience. I would like input from other parents as to what you wish the teachers knew that would make a big difference in your child's life.
So true!!!!
My son knows he has some problems. He was moved to a school that has a BD program. He wants to get better. He wants his brain to be normal. He feels alone a lot and needs to know he's not the only kid going through this. Are there any DVDs out there for him to watch to help him?
Wow you seen them in person! That's great!! I wish I could afford it. Maybe if they go on tour one day and come to west Virginia lol

Right now only immediate family and my daughter's preschool know about her diagnosis (bc we requested her ABA therapist be with her to keep her on track). I struggle with when/how/if to tell friends and community members that she has an ASD diagnosis because she seems to be fairly high-functioning as of now. Part of me… read more

PDD- NOS or aspergers whats the difference? First test score were asp. second were PDD NOS. nothing changed on comments or scores. exactly the same, yet DX changed? Has this happened to anyone else? They did not see him again and the copy they sent us were just that a copy of each report. I just don't get it and am trying to find out what this means. I was told it will make a big difference in the services he receives @ school. Not for the better.
Yes, I understand this However. All of the scores. The comments. Parent and teacher scores. Were done and the #s = DX, aspergers. Then an exact copy with absolutely NO changes. DX, PDD-NOS. This… read more
