I am wondering if it would be advantageous, or not, to opt out of state-wide testing. I wonder if I'll be able to get progress reports any other way? Opt out? or not? Why? or why not?
Wow. @A MyAutismTeam Member, so those people who are opposed to common core so they are waiving the state testing are jeopardizing their child's chance to go to college. My son is in what they call… read more
My son is in his first year of college and is having a very difficult time academically, socially and emotionally. He has so much anxiety and depression that he has easily put on 50 lbs over the past year. It is clear to us that he needs to take a leave of absence to take care of the weight issue as well as better prepare himself emotionally for adult life. Does anyone have any suggestions for a Gap Year or summer program that caters to his age?
Thank-you.
I had to let go of my desire for my son to attend full tome college. We went to an interview st a college that has an Autism Supports Program at Eastern Michigan University. At the meeting where we… read more
My son will graduate from high school next year with honors. I am concerned about college, since my ability to have assignments and grading modified will be nil. Any thoughts on navigating the college experience for my HFA? Any thoughts on driving?
For driving... I recently found a professional (nurse/therapist) at my local hospital who specifically tests people to see if they are good candidates for driving or returning to driving. This… read more

Hi Joliep34 Hello, yes I have been through the college process too. My son is 18, and just did 5 classes through dual enrollment at our local community college. We first went to the Disability… read more
My life revolves around driving to and from appointments. My child has a driver's permit, it is like pulling teeth to get practice driving done. I feel like I am expected to be the driver for life. There are so many more things that could potentially be accomplished, but since I am around no progress happens. Am I the problem?
Try Vocational Rehabilitation they maybe helpful as I know they have driving course and some hosptials.

Hi, my son who is a Junior in High School maybe losing his special education supports the end of this year. He has Asperger's and suffers from anxiety. His main support was for his anxiety, but because of his schedule he doesn't have a study skills class where he can work on this. The school has contacted me about dropping his special ed supports, I am afraid that this will hurt his chances of getting supports he may need in college. Especially the first year and the big transition will be… read more
I am glad to have been of assistance to you. If you have any further questions or problems, do not hesitate to post. I will be happy to help you as much as possible.
I playfully hope there are programs that will support our children with autism as adults? With autism on the rise so much this should be a top priority. Will there ever be a cure for autism? Like me all of you want your children to adapt to life as much as possible when they are older. Especially for people who have a only child like we do. Thanks all in advance for reading my comment.
I was really lucky to be able to talk and do several miniate things but was not good at somethings there again wife is a big help.
I am a single mom with an adult daughter with Asperger's which is extremely challenging! She took online college classes and graduated but can't find a job wish someone would give her help.
She is only a sophmore, but we thought we better start now so we can do our research and narrow it down to two or 3. She doesn't have a specific degree in mind so we are pretty open - any ideas where to start?

My son, a college sophomore-junior is having great difficulty passing Calc I. He has taken the pre-requisites but still is not able to get beyond a grade in the sixties. I think a diagnostic-comprehensive assessment would help us uncover where the weakness lies. He needs this class to move on in all majors he has identified. Where or how do you think I could get this done.
yes, get a good tutor that is familiar with working with people who have developmental disabilities.
