Compulsive Throwing Away Things.
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question đź’

My son wants to throw things away. I have no idea why he wants to do this. But he wants to throw things away so badly that he actually will rip up items so he "justify" throwing them away. He throws away books, clothes, food, etc. It happens every day, throughout the day, and multiple times per day.

He's 18 so I can't physically stop him. I am able to delay him. He also gets sneaky about it to the extent of getting up during the night to throw things away.

Ideas anyone?

Does Anyone Have Experience With Withdrawal From Abilify?
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question đź’

My son is 11 years old and has been on Abilify for 5 years. He was prescribed this med to help reduce tantrums at school relating to feeling overwhelmed by schoolwork. Initially, we believed the medication helped, but it has led to significant weight gain. Now that he is 11 years old and in a special school that is more nurturing, I am not sure he needs Abilify and I am eager to get him off it given the side effects. We have tapered him from 7.5mg, to 5mg with no problem. However, about a… read more

What ADHD Medications Have Worked Well For Your Children With Asperger's?
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question đź’

My son has been on Daytrana patch since February. He currently is at 20 mg. I feel like it is not working at all. He is more irritable, aggressive and impulsive. He cannot swallow pills due to sensory issues. We previously tried Focalin XR (he kept chewing the beads) and Vyvanse (increased tics). I was wondering about Methylin as it comes in a liquid or chewable or Dextroamphetamine which also comes in a liquid. Anyone have any experience with these???? Thanks!

Nose Picking And Booger Eating 5yr Old....any Ideas How To Discourage This?
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question đź’

My son has been constantly picking his nose and eating the boogers...GAG! A few months ago he had a very bad nose bleed. Each time I see him digging for gold I ask him "Do you want your nose to bleed?" He replies "no" and pulls his finger from his nose. A few minutes later, he's right back at it. He's been using Nasalcort for several months as it helps prevent allergy symptoms and ear infections. So, a dry nose isn't the issue. Given his history of pica as a toddler, and habitual picking at his… read more

Anyone Else Have A Child Obsessed With Scabs? My Son Has Escalated To Hurting Himself! Please Help!
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question đź’

This is my first question here so apologies if I’m not utilizing this correctly. But, if you think you have any advice for me at all please answer; I’m desperate. My son has always been obsessed with scabs. This has never been alarming to me, although in retrospect it should have been. My son has now escalated to cutting himself for these scabs. It does not seem he wants to die or even hurt himself. He said he just “loves the feeling of scabs”. Of course I then share the risks with him, but he… read more

5 Year Old ASD Son Compulsively Throwing Things Away..WHY?
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question đź’

This is a very specific issue ( something he doesn't engage in on a regular basis or anywhere else) that happens every summer when we stay at my parents house at the beach. The house is on a lagoon, which is basically water where a street would be, in between each block... You can park a boat by your deck and head to the bay/ocean
Anyway, my son is absolutely compelled to throw items into the lagoon. A year or so ago it was just rocks and I wrote it off as a cause/effect activity and because… read more
