What Do The Acronyms Stand For?
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

When I first logged onto the site, everybody was speaking in code. I couldn't understand what they were talking about. Try as I might, I couldn't find anything on the site or the Q+A like a glossary. So, I decided to start one. I'll begin with some of the terms/acronyms I commonly use. Feel free to add the terms/acronyms that you commonly use!

Looking For A Homeschool Cirruculum To Use With My 10 Year Old Aspie, 7 Year Old NT Daughter. Any Comments/suggestions From Homeschoolers?
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

Considering Time4Learning and/or My Father's World. Money is an important consideration, since we are on a single (and modest) income. We will begin in the fall and this will be our first year homeschooling.

Who Has Been To Silver Dollar City Or Six Flags?
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

We took the boys (4 and 2) to Disney World and it went surprisingly ok. It would've been intolerable without the Guest Assistance Card, which I found to be pretty generous. And we discovered that John LOVES roller coasters. I'd love to try SDC or Six Flags -- curious how their accommodations for autism stack up to Disney World. Any experiences?

14 Yr Old Son With Aspberger's Trying To Deny That He Has Autism, Can We Help Bridge Him To Acceptance?
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

Yesterday at dinner we were discussing what we are all doing for Autism Awareness on April 2. Logan denied he is autistic and was adamant that he is normal like having Aspberger's is a bad thing. My heart fell out for him but I am concerned and don't want him making his sister feel bad because she has it too
We explained the Autism Spectrum later that nite to him and tried to make him feel good but all he really wanted was to just get away
What have other parents done in this situation, I'm… read more

What Exactly Is ABA Therapy?
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

My son is high functioning Asperger's: he scored exactly on the the line for autism spectrum with the new guidelines (6 1/2 years old). He struggles with social communication, is rigid in his play, has unusual obsessions, is anxious, relies on his twin sister for social interactions and fears, has meltdowns at least once a day, and is starting to have anger issues. We had a break with the anger issues for a while now, but they are resurfacing. He has high expectations that can almost never… read more

Experienced Homeschoolers: Do You Prefer A Dedicated Classroom (converted Bedroom) Or An Area In A "public" Area Of The House?
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

Next Fall I will be homeschooling my 7 year old NT daughter and my 10 year old Aspie son (3rd and 5th grade, respectively. I have heard various ideas about which is better, a dedicated classroom or a "corner" of a public area in the house. If we used a "classroom" it would be a spare/craft room with a table, couch, and storage. If we used a public area, it would be 1/3 of the great room with kitchen, living, and dining room nearby. I know there would be more distractions in the great room… read more
