My grandson asks me and another very close family member to touch his privates and it greatly concerns me. He is already in emotional therapy to work out many issues surrounding his prenatal exposures and parental abandonment and I have brought this subject up as well. I am gathering slowly that it may be a reaction to either built up anxiety or momentary anxiety that he does not know how to express or process, but I worry greatly that he will ask others to do the same thing and this puts him… read more
@A MyAutismTeam Member I'm not trying to scare anyone, but you do have to be aware what is actually going on in your child's school. What events that they are vague about, like 'Field Trips' that are… read more

My grandson puts himself to sleep by pulling on a sock with his mouth to start to untangle it until all of the threds are pulled out. What can I do to change this behavior.
Also, my 13-year-old grandson is home schooled and has no friends other than family and his puppy. Is there any kind of social activities he and others can attend? Are there any churches who may have Youth Meetings where kids can meet and greet, maybe dance and sing or play card and board games>
I let Stephen tear up old magazines.
There's always a 'event' that leads up to this, and lately it's been going to His mom's.
Figure out the Why/Trigger.
I have a 14 yo and she really doesn't have one true friend , kids are mean and don't understand, just wonder what anyone does in this circumstance
You can look for social clubs for autistic children in your area.
My grandson is getting in trouble at school because he’s pushing or biting other kids. We’ve had many conversations, but he always gets easily frustrated and reacts this way. How do we help him?
Im so sorry to hear this. You must feel stressed about it. I agree with what’s been said. The behaviours are showing overwhelm or distress. This means staff need to be proactive. Sometimes those… read more
I just had my home visit for IHSS. I live in San Diego County, CA. I had my sons doctor fill out the initial form as requested. The social worker who is in charge of my sons case was not helpful. She had me explain all of Lucas' abilities/inabilities & basically said she needs me to right up a statement noting all of Lucas' "severe" behaviors. She said he would only be eligible for 24 hr home care. I'm confused on what they are looking for when it comes to this statement. I explained everything… read more

Has anyone ever filed a complaint with their state's board of education because the district did not resolve the issue? My issue is my son's school has not had a speech therapist on staff all year. I found out the one from last year is still in the district but in a different position...... Did the issue get resolved after this? Was your child treated differently at school after and during complaint process?
The beginning of the last school year my son was in kindergarten and improperly placed for the 1st 9 weeks. It broke my heart. Nonverbal communication is something I worry about every minute of every… read more

how double standard is the fact that a.b.a providers cant be seen in public doing there therapy , why not its considered child abuse? wth is wrong here?
That does sound like it is specific to your provider. We also have community outings. Our ABA therapist spends as much time out of the office for visits than in the office.
