Internalizing Anxiety That Leads To An Emotional Breakdown/meltdown
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

My 4yr old son internalized his feelings. He stops talking, making eye contact, and loses control. It builds up in him for weeks until he explodes on little requests like brushing his teeth or eating dinner. He'll go to his room rip apart his bed, throw his books and toys everywhere, turn off his light and sit in a corner breathing fast. If we try to stop him or talk to him, he squeals and thrashes. I have talked to his therapist and doctors. I don't know what to do. How do you get a 4 yr old to… read more

Thank you so much for all your help. God bless you too. I have seen a face chart. That sounds like a good idea to try. I will observe him more closely and figure out what's going on. Thank you again.

Meltdowns With Negative Thoughts
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

My daughter is 9 years old, and has PDD/NOS. She has done biofeedback for about 9 months now, and it has really helped her social skills. I am concerned, though, because she has had a few meltdowns recently that have left me reeling. She becomes extremely negative, insisting that no one likes her and everyone is mean to her, including myself, her father, and her brother. During the most recent episode she went so far as to tell me I hate her and want to kill her. When we assure her that her… read more

Inspiration For Hurting Mom?
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

I have a mom in my neighborhood who has a child with Autism who is a year or two older than my boy. She has a hard time not blaming herself. She beats herself up every day about it, thinking it's her fault. Other than social media sites (like this one) what are some thought/quotes/words of wisdom I can share with her to help her find comfort?

Has Anyone Tried Intense ABA For Aggressive Behaviors?
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

Has anyone tried ABA therapy for severe aggression? Some of it I agree with but than there are some components of it I don't agree with. I understand the objective is to extinguish the negative behaviors such as hitting, scratching and throwing objects when frustrated. But my child gets so upset at times during therapy he vomits on himself. He does calm down but the director of his program told me not to let that upset me. And to make matters worse she said not to clean the vomit up until he… read more
