How Does A 21 Yr. Old Autistic Get A High School Diploma AFTER High School
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

My son is 21 and attends our local community college. He's there to get his GED because his high school "decided" to give him a local diploma because they felt he "couldn't do it". Turns out..with alot of support...HE CAN do it.. I am pushing hard to get this GED for him, but Math always sets him back. He can't pass it because the kids have behavioral problems, not special needs. Big difference!! They are all HS dropouts!! Why can't there be a way for my son to get a high school diploma without… read more

A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

We are having difficulty with multiplication… Does anyone have any suggestions on teaching the concept? She gets the adding piece of it 2+2+2+2= 8 she just doesn’t get that 2x4equals the same answer. We’ve tried flash cards but she doesn’t seem to retain the info. Any ideas would be appreciated.

Does Anyone Have Suggestions To Help My Autistic Twins Learn How To Do Math Word Problems?
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

My twin 11 year old boys are struggling in math and in particular with word problems. I have tried helping them break out the problems into steps and look for the key words to determine the calculation required but they still cannot do this on their own, even if the next problem is just like the previous problem but with a different storyline. Any tips or suggestions to help?

A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

My son receives excellent grades despite always hearing he's slower than his peers. However, he's in middle school now and his math grades have steadily dropped to C's. His teacher says the bulk of his grade is because he's not quick enough to recite his math facts. I suspect this is because he has a methodical approach and system with everything he does. The school is evaluating whether or not he needs an IEP to allow him more time. Other than that, I'm told there's not much more they can… read more
