It’s hard to say what our kids get out of the things are obsessed with it might just really comfort him and help him feel regulated in ways we don’t understand so I don’t know if there’s anything… read more
Loved that book! Yes when my Son was young prior to 1st grade, he would get so upset he would go into an asthma attack and babysitters would call 911. Then they would say he was too much to handle. I… read more
Even when we are in our own home my daughter refuses to be by herself. If her sister is with her in the main part of the house (living room, dining room, and kitchen are all open to each other) I can be in another room and she is ok. She will not go in any of the bedrooms or bathrooms without me which means anytime she needs something from those rooms or has to go potty she wants me to go with her. It gets draining and I just don't know how to help her get past this. Anyone else have a similar… read more
Thank you, I think I have inisitol already so I'll have to read more about it for her.
Good Morning Team,
Problem: Alex is 8, deals with separation anxiety 5 days of the week when his dad isn't here (at work) and we have a routine for dealing. He is very verbal now, but when the meltdowns and tantrums (yes, I can tell the difference) happen he is thrashing around and has sometimes hurt me, he has broken stuff. It scares me. Discipline has a reverse affect and I don't know what to do! Help?
sometimes you just have to distract them. It's a lot easier said than done. We are going through those tantrums daily. It's very exhausting. We don't give him meds because doctor thinks he doesn't… read more
My daughter is 3 years old and her separation anxiety is at a peak. Never wants me to drop her at school or leave her period....even to go into another room at home. She makes me late for work sometimes. I hate to see her have a meltdown every time we have to separate. And I hate sneaking out when she gets distracted because it makes it worst. But it’s the only way I can move along. Looking for answers/help.....!!
i would explain to her the day before exactly the routine and maybe give her a comfort toy or blanket to take to the nursery lots of praise for little things recognising her name on coat peg etc and… read more
Hi there,
My 3 yo daughter with ASD has been showing extreme separation anxiety lately. Especially with my husband. She's going through a major daddy phase. Any time he moves away she yells "don't go anywhere" and starts her ear piercing screaming. We're at our wits' end for how to deal with it. Also, she's used to someone staying with her til she goes to sleep. Anyone re-sleep trained a clingy 3yo with ASD? How is it done? Is it scream it out vs cry it out and you have to make them stay… read more
I would give my ASD child my sleep shirt so she has Mommy scent for comfort. As far as the sleep training goes, my sleep routine for her includes a full body massage with lavender lotion and her… read more
My daughter has been diagnosed with OCD, ODD, ADHD, GAD, depression, separation anxiety and PTSD. She also suffers from minor Fetal Alcohol Syndrome as her birth mom was on all substances and did not know she was pregnant.
We have had pretty much all of the diagnoses you mentioned (exceot fetal alcohol syndrome), plus bipolar, schizo affective, dyslexia, dysgraphia, seasonal affective disorder...
My family is about to experience Mom separating from Dad. My oldest (PDD-NOS) is 9. My 4 year old is NT. Both boys. I am about to mess up their world so badly and am feeling so guilty. What can I do to help them through this? I fear the older will blame himself and/or the Autism.
I just went through this last year...rough year for us. However, we are doing much better than we were at this time last year.
My son was 3.5yrs at the time we moved away, and I consulted with a… read more
It seems like over the past few months my 6 year old son has started regressing. And haveing more ASD symptoms than he did 5 months ago when he was diagnosed.
My daughter has gone through stages where she would have an issue when I would leave, I wouldn't be able to say goodbye to her or let her know I was leaving or she wouldn't let me go. As her… read more
Would anyone be willing to share their experiences with using prozac for anxiety with their autistic child. My son is 9 and moderately functional, verbal, but has a great deal of anxiety about going to school. Or separating from us (his parents) for activities.
Prozac works for anxiety but I would trust your doctor's opinion. It takes about six weeks to kick in, and it doesn't work for everyone so he may need to try different antidepressants.
