Maybe have them help you make the food? My son is big on smell so he likes to smell things and thinks about it before just trying something right away. It can take a while for him to come around but… read more

Can Anyone Help Me With My ODD Child?
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

I have a very stubborn kiddo. He is very aware of our household rules yet breaks them again and again and again. It's exhausting.

Great moms think alike. I too use the time out chair and the stop light. I find visual cues work better for my Jasper than verbal ones that he really doesn't seem to understand. We also have a visual… read more

Anger Management
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

our 4 years son is getting increasingly violent and loud whenever he faces an objection (rule, argument) with us or with his sisters. Once he is triggered, and it can be with anything such as asking him to finish his plate before desert, he can start throwing everything on the floor, hitting his sisters, yelling etc. The only solution we have found is to exfiltrate him and put him on a table high enough so that he doesn't jump, which is objectively not a very sustainable solution

Not Wanting To Attend School/Stuck
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

Hi all! I am in a situation where my daughter does not want to attend school. She will get off the school bus but does not want to enter the school. It' almost as if she's stuck. We have dealt with this all school year but at first it was just a few days out the week that she would do this and now it's been everyday so she hasn't attended school in weeks! Is anyone else experiencing this or does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks in advance!

What About When They Fight You?
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

I’m reading books about teaching kids on the spectrum life skills. Every example is an ideal situation where they make the instruction clear, use visual aides, and show the kid how to do it. Once the kid understands, they do what they’re told. The author of the book says that her mom was the authority on everything from the beginning. Well, I’m not. I’m just now trying to assert my dominance, for lack of a better word, on my 7 year old daughter who is starting to talk back and take over and be… read more
