Has Anyones Kids Experienced Constipation From Chewing On Hair And Ingesting It?
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

My daughter (7) has been chewing her hair so much she gave herself a curtain bang. Has anyone else dealt with this? Just chews on the ends of it but due to bloody stool we have an emergency appointment for today. She’s had anal fissures in the past and I’m wondering if the hair chewing/eating has something to do with the constipation.

There is actually a scientific name for this, which I think is casually called "Rapunzel Syndrome." Hope you find answers and some coping mechanisms :)

Swinging Sleep Issues
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

Usually my son is very hard to wake in the morning ( takes about a half hour of hard rubbing and talking to him to get him to even open his eyes and sit up) but twice this week he has been up for a while before me, Is it common for sleep issues go from one extreame to the other like this? Any advice for making his and everyone (teachers, classmates, siblings) day without sleep easier?

Has Anyone Had Any Problems With Foot Getting Stuck In Crib Rails While Sleeping?
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

My granddaughter is not ready for a toddler bed but keeps getting traumatized when her foot gets wedged in between the slots of the crib. We have tried wide, breathable cloth bumper pads... She is very oral so not sure what else to try? Any suggestions would be great... please.

I've heard of people cutting and tying those swimming noodles around the crib, however I think this will be super attractive thing to chew on. Not sure if she would have the urge to chew on it or… read more

Chlonodine As A Sleep Aid Or Melotonin??
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

I have one 7yr old boy (ASD) on Chlonodine. Helps him sleep, therefore better focused during the day in school. Behaviors have minimized and verbalization is increasing. Could be due to sleeping better and/or maturity. I have another 7 yr old boy (PDD..being retested for ADHD) on Melotonin (4ml). He has trouble sleeping and staying asleep. It works wonders!! I was wondering if I should wean my other son off the Chlonodine. Any suggestions??

Meltdowns With Negative Thoughts
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

My daughter is 9 years old, and has PDD/NOS. She has done biofeedback for about 9 months now, and it has really helped her social skills. I am concerned, though, because she has had a few meltdowns recently that have left me reeling. She becomes extremely negative, insisting that no one likes her and everyone is mean to her, including myself, her father, and her brother. During the most recent episode she went so far as to tell me I hate her and want to kill her. When we assure her that her… read more

Do You Have Issues With Your Children Waking In The Night And You Sleeping Through It?
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

Answer: When my ds was getting up constantly we bought a sensor you attached to the wall (we put on our tall computer case). Plug in the other part of the sensor in your bedroom and it will wake you up when someone walks in front of that sensor. My ds is to old now and we can't "pretend" it for the dog anymore... he knows it is for him and wants to play with it. So it's been put away, now 9 out of 10 times I sleep on the couch in the living room. ;O)
