High Schools In San Diego County
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

Im new here, I have a 15year old Autistic son heading into high school next year and I am looking for a high school in the San Diego Ca district. Similar to the school he is in now. I was amazed at the K-8 charter school he is in now there is no bullying, most on the spectrum and get along great and feel they fit in. Are there any other parents here that can recommend any high schools similar?

Can you please share which charter k-8 school your son attended? My daughter is in 5th grade in a public school and is really struggling. I'm hoping to find another school. Thank you.

Looking For A Good School System
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

I have 4 children. The two oldest, with ASD and learning disabilities are now 24 and 22. Before entering school, my youngest son showed signs of delay but I was reassured he was not on the spectrum. By 3rd grade he was falling farther behind but the school could not provide any explanation or help. After years of fighting with our school system to get them to even acknowledge my other sons' needs but still not providing them, I am pondering moving anywhere to get this one better services. Any… read more

What Would You Do If The Only High School In The Area Is The Worst School?
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

The high school in my area is the only one in this area. We have several elementary schools (around 5 or 6) and two middle school and one high school. I find that the kids there are... for a lack of a better wording... reverse racism and ignorant... my nephew went there last year and he was in several fights and the teachers there do not follow the I.E.P., he was suspended for defending himself, they told him that just because someone (or group) comes up behind you and slams your head into the… read more

If teachers are not following your son's IEP you have options to fix that. First, ensure the school principal and staffing specialist are aware, if no help there, go to the ESE department of the… read more

Virtual School For Depressed 12 Yr Old In Public Middle School?
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

Hi all
My daughter has mild autism but also severely depressed. Public school triggers her depression and anxiety and she's been in 5 different schools in about as many years. She just started middle school after being kicked out of the alternative school she was in. She's going downhill - doesn't care about anything, no bathing, no interest in previously enjoyable activities. It just kills me
Now I'm considering taking her out to do virtual school which is a good charter here in Maine. I'm… read more

Are Charter Schools Better Than Public Schools For Children That Are On The Spectrum?
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

My son will be entering high school next year, I am considering a charter school instead. The high schools here are massive and give him anxiety just stepping onto the grounds. Any advise is most helpful.

California: Charter School / Homeschooling?
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

Hello Everyone,

My question is in regards to Homeschooling / Charter school options in California. I know California has strict laws about Homeschooling and having to register as a private school in your home. I've been struggling to decide what options are out there. My son is in 2nd grade and has been in public school since Pre-K. He had done fairly well, but now he is falling behind in some areas. Also, he is now experiencing things he hadn't before such as crying during recess, he won't… read more

I've been researching this as well, as far as I can tell you only need to register your home as a private school if you're going to be the one teaching all the time which you would need certifications… read more
