Special preschool recommendations in the Greater Boston area?

My family and I are moving to Massachusetts this summer. My son is currently 2 years old with ASD and will turn 3 early next year. We've not decided where to live and still looking around housing. My work will be in Cambridge, and we consider Watertown, Belmont, Arlington, or perhaps Newton. Which school district would you recommend for special preschool? These towns are usually well rated for public schools but I'd like to know… read more

Why is my son EATING chalk?

Ok so it started about a month ago. My son will hunt down chalk. I mean search and search til he finds a piece and once he does its straight to his mouth and he's eating it! I have no idea where he gets it from though cause I was quite certain I put it all up. My daughter never did this.
The chalk is crayola chalk and it says non toxic but should I be concerned?

I would talk to his pediatrician. Whether its non toxic or not, it isn't good for our bodies to ingest things that aren't food.

has anyone tried carlson fish oil?

Has anyone tried giving Carlson fish oil to their child? If yes did it make any noticeable changes? I read a really positive review from a parent that tried on a child with severe autism.

If you could assign an animal representation to children with autism, which one would it be?

Is there a particular animal that children with autism relate to the most? I am doing a creative project for a class and would appreciate your input. Thanks!

Autism and ex husband anger issues?

Does anyone have any insight in autism/custody
My son can't officially be diagnosed with autism yet because he isn't old enough. Well I am going through a custody battle with my ex husband. The only thing is, my ex has outrageous anger issues. He has been violent towards me and my daughter and has pulled a gun in me and his son. My son also has heart problems and would constantly stop breathing as a newborn and whenever my son was inconsolable, my ex would… read more

Service Dog training

My question is, is there a place where I can get my dog trained for my son? We live in N. Houston, and my current employer provided me with a German shepherded/ husky mix that was born in July 10 of last year. I had basic training for my dog through petsmart and he did great! learned really fast, and I am currently looking for where I can have him trained for my son needs, but I have no idea where to start. If there is any help that can be provided it would be appreciated.

What are some summer day camps in the Stamford, CT area for a 6 year old non-verbal boy whose primary diagnosis is autism?

I am looking for a summer day camp in or around Stamford, CT for a 6 year old non-verbal autistic boy. He has no aggressive behavior and is very gentle. At this time he is not potty trained. He has a service dog and can do simple life skills with limited assistance. He has no sense of danger and wears a device on his ankle in case he should wander alone from his surroundings.… read more

Hello, I'm trying to find a good cd that has some good finger play songs.

My son is 2 yrs old and recently diagnosed with ASD. Since he really likes music I think it would be great to use that as therapy. I need one with really simple songs, specially finger play songs. Thank You!

Can an autistic child go from being verbal to non verbal?

My son is 15 months old. He had started saying about three words but mainly just grunting and screeching. Now he doesn't say ANYTHING. He won't even mimic sounds anymore. Is this normal?
Now we are having babies can't wait come out because my sons pediatrician is concerned about his behavior. And it seems that he has several "red flags"

Does anyone know how to prevent a child from pulling out a G-tube button?

Recently had G-tube put in because of very poor diet, mostly juices, and some loss of weight. Wants to touch area around tube and I am afraid will eventually pull the tube out. Some people have suggested elbow restraints but I think that is going to make things much worse.
