My 12 year old son has realized that he is different than the other kids at his public school, but does not want any of the other kids to know that he needs special help. He is socially lacking in some areas and would really benefit from social skills training but refuses to go to the special ed rooms or have anything to do with the special ed teachers/staff because he does not want to be associated… read more

The school psychologist gave us the diagnosis and set up his IEP but now were left on our own to figure out how to deal with this. I dont know how to get him the help he needs outside of school. None of the local agencies will treat him because hes under 14, one agency wont accept private insurance and hes not on Medicaid yet, another wont even talk to me on the phone about… read more

His response, "To look at things we can't afford? No way, I'm tired and want to eat." After I started thinking,I got angry. In the six years we have been together, everything we do, every place we go is for him or the kids. Not once in five years have we done something just because I wanted to.I… read more

My son doesn't like to sleep in his bed... Now this is aside from all the difficulties of actually getting him to go to bed at night; when he does fall asleep he likes to take his blankets and pillows and make a little nest on the floor. I've been debating whether or not to try and change this behaviour - I mean the goal is to get him to have a sound night's sleep - and if making a nest on the floor does that, then all the power to him… read more
