I live in Texas and need help with my 22 year old son. He is a high functioning ASD young man. Graduated High School but does not make the best decisions and trusts what every one tells him. We were told we might need to get guardianship of some kind over him. Don't know where to start and what to do. We have a very limited amount of funds since 2 children are in college right now and my son is trying to get into a trade/community college program. Where do I go? What kind of guardianship do we… read more

Thank you so much for the information. My son graduated and my high school. I worked at the same school. It has been very little help. I have been so stressed with trying to get… read more
My son is a collector. Recently he's become borderline obsessed with getting all of the Bear books that Chic Fil A is giving in the kid's meals. Today we went to get a kid's meal, and even though they are still advertising the bear books, they had a different toy. This, of course, caused a meltdown. The manager very kindly found another Bear book for Ben, but my mom thinks I should have put my foot down and said no more, and that sometimes in life we don't get the whole set. I see her point… read more
My niece loves the show Adventure Time and I have spent $350 or more to satisfy her obsession. I told her that I will buy her whatever she wants, when I can, and not on the spot. Especially when she… read more
My daughter got diagnosed as moderate ASD.
I don't hear much about it. Most People say their kids are either low or high functioning. How can I tell the difference as far as where my child is on the spectrum. She is verbally delayed and her cognitive levels are good. Most people probably would not notice she has Autism when they first meet her. Would she be considered high functioning?
I believe the 20% stat from two Fein studies are applicable to HFA group only, not broadly to ASD. Her definition of optimal outcome (i.e. recovered) was very high - indistinguishable from peers, not… read more
DD does special needs soccer through the AYSO VIP program. I may also have her try T-ball through the Little League Challenger program next spring.
My 12 yr old son does a lot of mumbling to his self mostly about previous things or his favorite TV shows. He also paces back and forth while mumbling,I try redirecting his attention elsewhere but it only works for a little while.I do not want him on meds so what are some other things I can do to try and get him to calm this down?
How old is your son?

I had to do it this way because I can't respond to any questions! When I click on "add post" nothing happens. I can ask questions, but that's it!
It obviously is not an issue, I'm just curious because my son runs this way and I see many other children with autism running like this, too.
I was wondering the same thing. I never thought about Autism. My son is also on the spectrum. Did you found out something about it?
I am having problems posting comments. Any suggestions?
I am wondering if any other parent has had members in there family diagnosed with POTS - disorder and Autism within the family ?
I have a family friend who does.
