Colin was diagnosed by a developmental pediatrician at Kennedy Krieger then his diagnosis was confirmed by a pediatric neurologist, who when pressed felt he was HFA level 1 (whatever that really means) now I'm finally getting and ADOS done after some fighting (refused to sign IEP until it was completed) for an educational diagnosis. My question is how do I use the information when developing his IEP? What if I disagree? Is the ADOS rigid enough to force them into offering appropriate/tailored… read more

My 3 year old daughter has the curliest hair. She hates for me to even touch it. This makes it so difficult to wash and condition her hair. Every time I try detangling her hair it's a meltdown. It makes it even harder when all she wants is baths, because I'm afraid she will hit her head in the tub. I need any suggestions or stories to help me out. Thanks!

Our sons front teeth are starting to get loose now and we can see the start of his adult teeth breaking the gum behind them. I need some reassurance or advice as to how this will go for kids on the severe/moderate spectrum. We're really worried he might swallow them if they get loose enough or pull it himself when it's not ready to be removed. Any advice/suggestions/reassurance for us? Should we go to the dentist to have them professionally removed?

My daughter learned how to answer most questions, but I have been trying to teach her how to ask questions such as: "where are we going" or "what's this". How do you guys teach children on the spectrum how to ask questions?
i would say the question that I want her to ask, such as mine has sensory issues, so loud sounds would bother her, so I would jump in when I heard a sound that may bother her and as "what's that… read more
Thank you so much for this team. I have 12 year old son. I am a motswana living in botswana. Not much is known about this condition in my country. Our children are treated like psychiatric clients. No education is there for them especially the worse ones like my son. The only option is to be stuck at home. My question is how do i advocate for him and others. I dont even know what they should be taught.
