.What Tips, Suggestions, Ideas Do You Have For Helping With Transition From HS To College?
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

My son who has Aspergers is currently a junior with a 504 plan. He plans to attend college and live on campus. What worked best for those who have had children graduate from HS?

MY SON IS IN LOCAL COLLEGE AND THEY HAVE A SPECIAL PROGRAM THAT IS THERE FOR THEM CALLED LIFE UNLIMITED, IT IS GREAT, JUST KEEP CHEERING HIM ON AND HAVE A GOOD SUPPORT SYSTEM FOR YOUR CHILD BESIDES YOU THAT THEY CAN GO TO. IT ALSO HELPS TO INTRODUCE THEM TO SOME FRIENDS PRIOR SO SOMEONE CAN BE YOUR EYES FOR YOU.

I work at an "institute of technology" university and by virtue of our programs, we have a significant population on the spectrum. We're lucky to have a specialist on staff, and we also provide training for our RA's in the halls - plus the professional live on staff are more familiar in working with students on the spectrum. More and more kids are going to college and doing well with support. Connect with the disability student services early on in the process to learn what the colleges have to offer.
