Heavy Metal Detoxification
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

In an article by Stephanie Cave, MD Baton Rouge, LA titled Autism in Children [International Journal of Pharmaceutical Compounding Vol. 5 No. 1 January/February 2001] she states "It is my belief that the removal of heavy metals is the treatment that determines the prognosis of the autistic child. If heavy metals can be removed from the child's system before he or she is 7 years old, there is a good chance for recovery from autism." Is anyone aware of this treatment with subsequent results?

The subject remains controversial in the lay press, much as with the association between vaccination and the development of ASD. However, a review of the current scientific literature "does not support the use of chelation as a treatment for autism".

Be forewarned that you've just asked about one of the most controversial topics when it comes to autism treatment. You will get a bunch of different opinions pro and con, and even doctors who do biomed treatments can't agree. Our biomed dr. does not think that the potential benefits outweigh the potential risks, but this is something you'll need to do your homework on to make up your own mind about.

they can guide you in the right direction.. I have done this for my children...my son had cadmium in his system...we have no clue how he got it... and he is our learning disability one...our autistic high functioning one had no metals in him.. which was weird...its a long long and expensive journey...I went for a long time with it.. and never seen any difference .. and I couldn't afford it any more..good luck

both... I researched like crazy first.. then added supplements to my childrens diets... after reading jenny macarthys books about her journey I went from there.. found a DAN doc 100 miles away... and she was a medical doc as well...the first thing she did was order lab testing for our kids urine and stools. and blood.. the we went through the results. and then set a plan in place of how much supplements to start with.... milligrams... the kids ended taking a ton!!! I made a whole diary of what they were taking at the time... what they were lacking... and detoxing them... getting rid of the yeast in their gut.. to taking gluten and casian away... it takes time... and its expensive...

Debra,
If I may ask...you wrote that you "went for a long time with it". Do you mean a long time before seeking treatment, or do you mean that the treatments were recurring over a long period of time?
Did a physician oversee the treatment?
