How Do You Tell A 5 Year Old He Has Aspergers? (or Do You?)
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

My 5 year old is being diagnosed with Aspergers this week. What should I tell him, if at all, about his Aspergers? We've had 4 different assessment appointments, and I've told him that we're figuring out how his brain works so we can pick the best Kindergarten for him. Any suggestions or experiences?

I don't know if this is the right thing to do or not, but our Nero psychologist told us until middle school when it becomes more of an issue and kids are a lot more mean.. At least our son didn't need to have that talk yet. He's 9 and we haven't done it yet. I think in our case it will give him anxiety and more to deal with before he's ready and he's younger than his chronological age.

My son was 8 years old when he was diagnosed. I explained how Asperger's can affect him and he was quite relieved that his behaviors were not because he was a bad kid.
