Does Anyone Have Sleep Issues With AS Children?
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

My daughter only gets about 7 hours of sleep. I know she needs more than that. She is a much nicer kids when and if she sleeps more. I only get about 6 hours of sleep, I have to stay up until I know she is fast asleep, if I don't she will continually wake me up.

We had the same issues and found that Melatonin was the trick for us having a good nights sleep. Its not a sleeping pill, here is where you can read about it: http://www.webmd.com/sleep-disorders/tc/melaton...

Melatonin! N-Zilla was getting about 3 hrs of sleep. Their were days I didn't send him to school because he had gone to sleep 1hr before he had to be up. Talk to your doctor. At Doc RX melatonin for us then we found it over the counter at Wal-Greens. Strawberry flavor and it melts in the mouth.

Melatonin is what you need. I have struggled for years with my daughter with her only being able to sleep a few hours. I moved a couple of years ago and the new pediatrician said that most kids with Aspergers does not produce enough melatonin on their own. I give her just 1mg and in 1 hour she is a sleep and sleeps for 9 - 10 hours. She is a differnt child in the morning now. You can get it at the health food store. It also is a good flavor. Make sure you just get 1mg liquid and start off with a low dose. My daughter is 8 and 85 pounds.

-There shouldn't be any distractions.
-Have the kitchen fan running
-weight toy or blanket
-make nap time earlier and shorter if she still naps during the day
-get her moving, exercise, swimming is great
- and not much tv or anything to stimulating before bed
-Have the same routine every night the 4 B's bath, brush teeth, book, bed
