Most children make great progress over time, especially when therapies are started at a young age as they are for your young son. There are times when a child with an IEP can be mainstreamed. The IEP will explain what extra support is needed in that environment. In my experience, an ASD diagnosis does not hold a child back, instead it usually helps the child gain more needed services.
Thank you StellaLuna, AmberNichole and Marilyn4 for your help
Every three years your child will be tested to see if he qualifies for special Ed services. It is possible for your child to outgrow the need for services. Every year you will sit down with the school principal, teacher, social case worker and any therapist your child sees to determine how many minutes and what kind of services your child will receive. Good luck.
Asd and ADHD sorry
My son has an add and went to be regional center as well. He had sensory issues as well. But he has always been in main stream classroom. And has special Ed for math since he's majorly delayed. But is doin great for him. Plus I didn't want him only with other kids so he would not see the modelin of appropriate behavior looked like etc.
