He was phased out of therapy and SSI denied him several years ago because he was doing so well; now with puberty his asperger's has gotten worse and I have even had to take him out of school. Please help!

A 504 plan is a plan designed by the school district and you that provides specific accommodations for your son while he is at school. It is not monitored by the special education personnel, it is used only by general education staff. Some typical accommodation examples are things such as preferential seating, extended time for written work, use of study guides. If you son needs more support, you may really need an IEP (Individualized Education Plan), but this is obtained by getting the school to do an evaluation of your son that includes several tests to assess him (cognitive, achievement, hearing, vision, language, motor, social/emotional,etc.) They then meet with you to share the results and inform you if he meets the eligibility for an educational diagnosis that will allow them to give him special education services and supports. Without knowing more about your son, it is hard to say whether a 504 plan or an IEP would be better for him, but you should look into this.

If you're in Florida this is called a 504 Plan. It is for kids with health problems ranging from asthma to Autism. It will allow for some accommodations for your son. It is usually given in place of an IEP if your child is high functioning. If things are getting that difficult you should talk to someone about an IEP, it will be much more helpful as far as services go. Talk to your guidance counselor or assistant principal. Don't take no for an answer! He deserves help!
