I am afraid my 3yr old son will freak out on take off. He has severe Autism and hates sitting still. Are babies scared? He will be in his own seat. Also any advise for cribs big enough for a 3yr old, for our hotel?
My classically autistic son loves planes. Takeoffs are his favorite. He was 4 when he first flew, and although he loves to jump around, he is always quiet and happy on planes.
The first time our ASD son flew was when he was 2 years old and we were surprised that he did freak out A LOT just boarding the plane. Fortunately, we had headphones w/ipad as well as iphone that we immediately put on him (he was already accustomed to it, liked it and we knew that would distract him). That calmed him down until after take off and he was fine afterwards even without headphones. We did the same on the return trip even before boarding the plane. Now, he is no longer is afraid of airplane / closed spaces, but we do keep headphones w/ipad/iphone just in case. Good luck.
I don't know about cribs, but I do know about a child going in an airplane. My daughter was 3 years old when I took her to South America and she was and is a hyper girl and has autism. All I can never forget is my experience in an airplane with her. She use to move around and wanted to cry out loud because the airplane made her ears hurt. Then again my flight was like 12 hours long & a transfer to another plane. I would love to take her again, but I am in doubt because of my previous experience. Hope this helps..

We have never brought our boys on a plane so I can't help you with flying but in all of our travels we have always used the Graco Pack N Play Sport. They no longer sell in stores in the US but you can find them online and on Ebay. http://www.kiddicare.com/webapp/wcs/stores/serv... It is slightly bigger that the average pack n play but has limited padding on the bottom. We just always used blankets as extra padding.
