My four and a half year old grandson is biting us more and more frequently. He is constantly putting things in his mouth (not food mind you - he is a very picky eater) and/or chewing on inappropriate objects - playground equipment, etc. The biting is what is concerning me most; it's painful. Any suggestions. I thought a biting 'tool' would help but after reading other reports, I guess not so much. Thanks for your help.
Toys that you can put in the freezer and get some ABA therapy and talk to your speech therapist about things than be be safe to replace his need to chew on things.
Try www.smartmoms.com teething bling is also availible on amazon. Another good choice for chewable toys/fidgets is www.kidcompanions.com
It could be behavior-related, in which case using analyzing the behavior might help (look for info on autism and ABC chart) or it might be sensory-related, in which case an OT might help. Or maybe it's both. Either way, it's certainly something you have to address.
Thank you for all of your responses. My first attempt was to type 'biting' into the search box and didn't come up w/much. I'll check again and you certainly are right - this needs to be addressed. Many thanks.
