My son does not like to keep his shoes on, so I wondered if gel inserts would help.

I used both leather type and gel type arch supports in my son's shoes but it was more to help his odd gait and turning ankle... The thing that helped him keep his shoes on was high tops ;)

Letting him pick out his shoes to buy helped my son.that's all tho.
