Effective Treatment For Hyper Focus Or Getting Stuck On Activity Or Requests
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

My son gets stuck on certain activities or requesting items of interest .I try to change his routine and provide different choices as much as I can to "unstuck him " . Does someone knows about supplements that are effective in treating hyper focus ?

Set a timer. He can be stuck for a few minutes and when timer goes off he needs to get off topic and do something else. Have a schedule board with leisure options. He picks one leisure options along with what he has to do ie chores, school work etc Do famous count of 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 ....

Look into NAC (specifically PharmaNAC) - it is a natural supplement that has been studied in a variety of neurodisorders including autism. Good luck.

Our son is on Adderall and it works great to keep him focused and calmed down so he can concentrate. He has only had to come up in dosage once in the four years he has taken it but it is still a low dose and he has no real side effects from it. For all of the meds out there it is pretty safe and works well. If he does not take it in the morning you will know by noon because he cannot focus on any one thing for long
