Recently our pediatrician recommended abilify for our sons transitions and focus issues. Has anyone tried this and if so did it help? We're a little concerned about putting our young son on strong meds like this, assuming he will even swallow the pill (hes not fooled by crushing and hiding in other foods/drinks either)
My son has been on abilify for about 6months and yes I have seen some changes in him being calmer at times when he use to not be. His teacher at school says she noticed a difference in him trying to focus more but yes he gained 20 pounds thank goodness my son is very tall for his age but we are seeing a psychologist to see of other methods because I just don't know if I wanna continue him on it.
Ambilify makes your kiddo gain weight. If they kids/teens are non verbal and agressive..controlling or calming them down will take some wrestling. No one wants to wrestle with an overweight kid/adult. Eventually Ambilify would become useless the longer one takes it. I've still seen aggression and violent behavior in a kiddo who was 16 when i met him and 26 now and worse off with no therapy at all. Its sad.
It did nothing for my son, but then nothing really has. Everyone is different! It is not as strong a medicine as some others when it comes to side effects. If things are bad enough to consider medication, then remember that when they are young, they learn better compliance with medication so that when they are older, they see the benefits and continue to take it.
Try getting him to swallow a mini marshmallow. If he can swallow that, he will be able to swallow any pill he is given.
My daughter was on it for a short time but we found it was causing weight gain and it did not accomplish much.
My son is on Aderall and it does wonders for focus and concentration and we have noticed no side effects.
