Are There Any Career Assessment Tests That Are Effective For ASD Folks?
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

1) Are there any career assessment tests that are effective for ASD folks? My son AJ is 19 and has moderate autism but doesn't know what he wants to do w/ his life.
2) since my son AJ has a diploma I'm told that the school district cannot provide any further services. If such a test exists, where can it be taken?
3) how would it be paid for?

Thx alot
Curtis

Check out the website humanmetrics.com. It has a free online personality type test that you take and then gives you your personality type with a list of recommended careers. It was recommended to me by a psychologist. It's a start. Most community colleges have a lot of resources. I would call them and ask for an assessment and a guidance meeting. They may be able to provide that free of charge if he is a prospective student.

See whether your state has a Department of Vocational Rehabilitation or Work Force Development. They may be able to help or point you in the right direction.

Try and locate an autism treatment facility-in Mo we have Judevine, Touchpoint and the Thompson Center. These places not only evaluate, assess and diagnos, but they also have follow up with great treatment plans. Most of them accept medicaid, so, you have a wide range of options.

AngieB, contact the Department of Education for your state. Explain what's been happening and ask if there is someone in charge of special needs/education. Our school district has a Director of Special Needs. You may want to check this out if you've only been talking with the school.

Angie- it's my understanding that the school district does an assessment as part of the child's transition IEP, called ITP. I just received a copy of my son AJ's ITP and he was assessed.
