My 4 year old daughter has autism spectrum disorder and has been doing 21 hours a week of IBI for 6 months now. She started IBI at 2.5 years old but I could only afford 9 hrs a week of IBI for the 1st year. Slower rate of acquisition doesn't mean slow or stupid. That is a function of cognition, therapist and what / how it is being taught. I would look into other forms of therapy as well including ST, OT, PT, Floortime and RDI as suggested above. Also consider diet/biomed.
I can't even imagine our bcba ever calling a child slow or stupid!! Now I'm irate for you! Some kids are just more aba kids and some are not. Can you request a different bcba or go with a different aba provider? (Unless your daughter is attached to their implementers). We are also starting rdi in conjunction with aba. Have you looked in your area for rdi consultants? I believe their website is rdiconnect.com. I don't know much about rdi yet, but it seems like an awesome program and much cheaper than aba.
