A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question πŸ’

My nonverbal 3 year old is very hard to keep dressed. The only thing we can guarantee that he will keep on is zippered, footed pajamas because he hasn't figured out the zipper yet. He can undo the buttons on overall straps now :( so that is no longer a viable choice. I've tried all types of materials/textures, fits(snug and loose), tag-less versions(or tag removed), massage, deep pressure, etc. I've read about everything that I can get my hands on. Are there any characters that he likes? Milo can be picky about clothing as well, and we tried getting him shirts with some of his favorite characters and he started getting excited to put on a shirt because he saw Spongebob or Buzz and Woody.

Maybe try (while at home) wearing something like a neoprene suit that zips up the back (like a surfer would use). We use tight fitting spandex for our one son, to keep clothes on, avoid chewing front of shirt and provide some compression during the day. Thankfully even Target sells workout type gear for kids young and old.

@evak77 we are just beginning on this journey. I hope ABA really does help over time. I don't expect easy answers, but ideas about what has helped others, even short term. Thanks.

We are doing alot better keeping clothes on now been huge issue for us, I have also tried all types materials and found some preferences and cartoon characters have helped us as well. The biggest change though was working in it in ABA thats has been a huge help, they have also helped with other behavior issues like transitioning, follow simple directions. That can make a huge difference. I see it as an important part of Tylers treatment plan!
