My son is in kindergarten now but I am possibly thinking of homeschool for middle school. What are some good books for me to read and what is a typical day for your child?
Thanks
I homeschool one of my children, my 8 year old son. We mostly use a child directed approach to learning. We have a lot of books, educational shows, and games. I find he learns best when it is something he wants to learn about. We are struggling right now with memorizing multiplication facts, so I also let him do conceptual work like geometry and charts and graphs. The best thing about homeschooling is that you can tailor it to your individual child and your teaching style. Experiment and have fun with it. I recommend reading "The Beginner's Guide to Homeschooling" by Pat Farenga. and "Choosing home : deciding to homeschool with Asperger's syndrome" by Martha Kennedy Hartnett. I am currently reading "the unschooling handbook" by Mary Griffith.
We don't use textbooks as much now as we used to. Today he worked on cursive writing by writing a letter, multiplication facts and fractions to decimals by using a free app for kindle he found, watched Wild Kratts about the aardvark and platypus, and started reading Alvin Ho book 2. He also did some math workbook pages about probability while waiting for his brother to do his speech testing at the public school. His favorite books are Magic Tree House and Amelia Bedelia. He enjoys photography, cooking, and playing with the kids in the neighborhood.
