Social Skill Groups In Mass
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

My son is 5 and is in PreK full time. His biggest goal for his IEP this year is social skill, specifically with peers. His school does not offer social skills (other than what they do within the class), so we are trying to find something either after school for him or on Saturdays. Anyone in Mass know of any groups or places? Anything I have come across has been for kids older than 6 and up.

If your son is in self contained. Have him pulled out for gym recess. Art and request a one on one aide during those times.

Or you can suggest he be moved to inclusion class part of the school day.

I started my own play group after school with 3 mothers and it worked out as a socializing event for my son and a parents group for us. We did it for about 3-4 years I still keep in touch 12 years later

Hey, I think your school is required to provide those services to you. It is not a matter of if they have them. I think, they have to supply them to you.

That sounds like a great place! Hopedale is quite a drive for us. We are on the North Shore, on the Southern NH border.

I am not sure where you are in MA but we take the children to Sensibility Gym in Hopedale, it is a great place for the children to play and the adults to talk at the same time. They have a website where you can look them up. The good thing is that there is no judgement because everyone is going through the same thing
