Shouldnt anyone teaching our children have training in aba, visual aids, reading an IEP, etc...
I also live in NY and have been getting the run around regarding this for years. At this time I am advocating for my son to have staff who are ABA trained. The district should be ensuring all the staff are trained. There is specific sections in the IEP... one of them being training for staff members.. they are able to get around this by using a classification other than Autism. There are specific regulations to be followed for Autistic children down to there being a minimum for certain therapies. What districts give you, when they have to, is Procedural Safeguards along with the IDEA regs... which doesn't go into detail. What they don't provide or even tell you about is Regs 200.. these regs are in depth as they are really the federal mandates that NYS is to follow. If you look them up I believe you'd be surprised at what these children are really supposed to be receiving.
I would think so
