Should I Try To Get My Son The Sensory Test?
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

Truancy is a major problem and I'm at my last straw sort of speak!! He is in 1st grade and is 8yrs old. No matter what we've tried he always tries to hide is close or shoes. He makes up some weird excuse like, "The floor's too cold" or "I don't wanna get my socks dirty!" He's even gone so far as to cut the belt loops on his pants so he can't wear them.

I highly recommend reading "The Out-of-Sync Child" by Carol Kranowitz. My brother has SPD and I used to think he was making it up to gain attention. I didn't realize until I was an adult that it was a real thing to be a sensory avoider. My own kids are sensory seekers, which has its own set of issues.
