Colin was referred for PCIT, which stands for parent child interaction therapy, or I think it's also colloquially known as play therapy. I never see this therapy mentioned on any autism sites and was curious what y'all might know. Thanks!
PCIT is parent child interaction therapy. there are 2 phases- the first focused on child led interaction and learning PRIDE skills (praise, reflection, imitation, description, enthusiasm) second is parent led and discipline phase. it might seem like every parenting book, but it's different, specific, and it works. therapist is in another room and speaking to parents through an earpiece- parents are interacting with child. the therapist is guiding the parent. it's so fast to see results also because you do practice at home every day as well. it's awkward at first but it works wonders- it's been a lifesaver for us
Not heard of this version of play therapy. DIR floor time (and play project), RDI and Son Rise are the more popular play therapies that I have come across. We have tried floor time and will be trying RDI.
You're welcome :-)
Thank you Jennifer!
My oldest son had play therapy when he younger, he loved it & it was helpful for him. It definitely helped improve his communication. The therapist came to our home & we would all end up on the floor playing & laughing. It was a positive experience for us.
