How Often Can A Case Study Be Done For An IEP?
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

My son had a case study one last year when he was in preschool, and he was denied for an IEP because they felt academically he was on track. Well now he's in kindergarten and has had several issues with his socialization and frustration level. He becomes easily agitated when it comes to writing because it's difficult for him. He's high functioning ASD. And is in OT, and goes to a social group once a week. And currently has a 504 plan.

I am VERY concerned about next year. He will be in first… read more

You can only do testing once a year but at anytime you can ask for a case to be re-looked at. You would use old testing data but present new classroom observations and class grades to include conduct. Also if they are requesting a BIP use that to your advantage because them requesting a BIP only supports you in that he is not functioning to his full capability. A BIP is only requested when behavior is interfering in the classroom functioning level.

Hi, you can have one IEP per year and many interim (as needed) during the school year.
A behavior intervention plan (BIP) is done to assist your child uncontrollable/unwanted behaviors that impede him to do well in class. I am in a similar situation, at the beginning of the school year I requested one for my son to assist him and the teachers, it's a process.
First the team develop a functional behavior assessment (FBA ) and follow the BIP.
In ref to next year goals it all depends on how he is doing this year in kinder, you are part of the IEP team and knows your son advancement and weakness. When you meet with your school team they will go over each goal to see if he master and determine /suggest what it is best for him. You as a parent/advocate will know what is best.
In my case the school team and I requested a paraprofessional service for next year. My son is going to first grade and required constant re-direction to do his work and comply with teachers demand. Academically he is bright but behavior is affecting him to comply overall in school.
Good luck :)

Make sure they take and show you the data from the FBA (functional Behavior assessment) before making and agreeing to the BIP. Like mentioned above a BIP is only for when behaviors are interfering with performance.
